Discover Vintage Paint chalk paint

This paint was imagined and created in 2004 by Lonnie Würtz and Vivian Christensen, two decoration enthusiasts. It is a Danish brand that focuses on French charming styles married to Scandinavian cocooning. They were able to find the material to give the colorful appearance of old furniture from yesteryear.

The chalky, patinated and authentic appearance is reproduced wonderfully.

This water-based, ecological paint is labeled

European standard for children EN71-3

It adheres to almost all surfaces (plastic, varnished, waxed or raw wood, iron, metal, glass, leather and fabric too!) without undercoat and covers well from the first application. The result is even prettier after the second coat. For white or light colors, prefer 3 coats. As a finish, several possibilities are possible to fix your work. Wax or varnish ... essential for protection and appearance.

The Vintage Paint range includes:

  • 60 colors

  • 3 primary colors

  • 3 metallic colors

Yield (for a 700 ml pot): approximately 7-10m2 depending on the porosity of the surface, i.e. 10 to 14 m2/L.

Drying time: 30 minutes to the touch - recoatable in 1 hour.

Tips and tricks for successful chalk painting.

Like all paints, Vintage Paint is no exception to the rule. Using the mixing stick, stir well to the bottom of the pot.

Take a container and extract a reasonable amount of paint, about 80 to 100 ml.

Diluted with water

Add approx. 30 ml (1/3 water to 2/3 paint) and mix with a brush until you obtain a creamy...milky consistency (custard).

Use a long-haired, synthetic brush or a short-haired roller for walls.

No sanding

Clean only the surface to be painted with:

  • fine alcohol from Frères Nordin , (alcohol made from beets which degreases perfectly) not to be confused with methylated spirits

  • or with Solarine.

If tannin is present, apply a layer of white tannin block , a single layer is enough to stop the tannin. The tannin block has been designed to prevent any tannin or tint from rising through the paint, in this case it will be necessary to apply it before painting. If in doubt, test on a small corner before application.

Paint in the direction of the wood grain. Feel free to fill the brush well and spread your paint while maintaining light pressure to release the paint by laying the brush down. Avoid painting with the tips of the bristles. Chalk paint should be very easy to apply, if it sticks it is because there is not enough water in the mixture. If on the contrary it is too liquid, add paint until you obtain a creamy consistency. If you have too much paint and water left over at the end, you can put the rest back in the pot. Close it tightly. It keeps well.

Finishing :

Apply your choice of wax (available in several colors and in colorless), ultra matte varnish or polyvine varnish.
