Yes, the fabric of an armchair can be painted with Vintage Paint. Here's how to do it:
From an armchair like this one, you can quite easily plan to paint it. Before buying, check carefully if it is in good condition, with a firm seat* , the fabric not torn. Prefer the armchair or chair fabric, leather, imitation leather, faux suede rather than velvet.
I come back to the firmness of the seat, this detail is very important, because if the seat is too soft, your paint will crack.
It is possible to paint velvet, but the touch is less pleasant and rough.
Instructions for use:
For this model, the wood was first sandblasted (fine sanding), then protected with 3 coats of Fondur (product of the Nordin Brothers ). Fondur is applied to raw wood, it has the virtue of preventing stains from penetrating the wood. Between each coat of Fondur, sand with fine steel wool, for a soft and silky final touch. And finally, application of 3 coats of matt Polyvine varnish.
For the fabric:
Mix the same amount of water and paint. Lightly spray the fabric with water using a spray or sponge and apply the paint. The drying time is longer, leave it overnight and repeat the second coat, in the same way, and repeat a third time if you have chosen a light color.
After complete drying, apply wax, using the wax brush, generously and evenly.
When the wax is dry, buff with a soft cloth. If the first coat of wax is absorbed, apply a second coat. Then buff again.
For this second model, it is the same process, but the wood was painted, then sanded in places for an aged, shabby effect, and wax finish.
It is also possible to add an image transfer or a stencil, in both cases it must be done on the painting, before the wax.
